12.25pm Thurles – Jett 2pts Win (3/1)
Montalbano is the hot favourite here for Willie Mullins and Rich Ricci, but with his presence in the race I feel it just seems we are getting a much better price on Jett. Being a second season novice over fences, he has a crucial experience edge over the Mullins runner, as well being rated higher over hurdles. He was a good second to Yorkhill last season and began this campaign in a good quality beginners chase in which he was behind Bacardys and Snow Falcon and ahead of De Plotting Shed. He should have too much for these.
12.40pm Towcester – Linenhall 2pts Win (7/4)
Linenhall made a successful hurdling debut last time out in which he showed a very willing attitude to hold off Good Man Pat (who has since franked the form with a close up second at Kempton). Ben Pauling is in flying form at present and this tough son of Stowaway can give him yet another victory under Daryl Jacob.
1.50pm Taunton – Lovely Job 3pts Win (13/8)
Fergal O’Brien has started this season brilliantly and his Lovely Job is already a solid performer over fences and is still improving. Already a dual winner over the larger obstacles, he ran a more than decent second at Aintree last time off this mark. The winner has given the form a good look with a second to Clan Des Obeaux since. Noel Fehily takes over the reigns and Lovely Job should take all the beating.
2.30pm Musselburgh – Point Of Principle 1pt Win (4/1)
Silver Concorde is a high quality animal on his day, but his day is still yet to come over hurdles which has to be a worry for a horse that is odds on. At the prices I think Tim Vaughan’s Point Of Principle provides some good value. He was far from disgraced when 7th in the Grade 2 Bumper at the Aintree Festival back in April and I believe the first 3 home in his hurdling debut are all decent sorts. The winner that day, Slate House, has since come out and won a Grade 2, Dans Le Vent has won a race comfortably and Gortroe Joe finished a close up fifth in what I think was a slowly run Listed race at Haydock. This looks a good opportunity for him to get his head in front.
3.10pm Towcester – Kayf Adventure 2pts Win (11/4)
After an impressive win on chase debut when claiming the scalps of Emerging Talent and Mick Thonic, Kayf Adventure was very disappointing at Ayr last time out. But carrying a big weight on the heavy ground may have taken it’s toll, so he’s taken to bounce back today. His form behind Neon Wolf and Misterton stands out to me here and he should simply have too much class for todays rivals.
