3.45pm Lingfield – Marley Firth 2pts Win (11/2)
A small field for this Class 2 Handicap but the bottom weight Marley Firth looks to have very strong claims on his handicap debut. He won on his first start for the Dan Skelton yard under Bridget Andrews who gets back on board today and was then pitched into Grade 2 company where he finished a respectable fourth only five lengths behind Red River who has won since and is rated 145. A disappointing effort at Plumpton followed but he got back on track at Chepstow last time, not beaten far into third and conceding weight to the winner. Already a winner on heavy ground and of a point to point this trip won’t be a problem and an opening handicap mark of 124 looks on the lenient side.
7.45pm Wolverhampton – Al Hamdany 2pts Win (7/2)
Celestial Spheres is likely to be a warm order for this given his improving profile, but he’s drawn wide and I think Al Hamdany looks decent value. He finished 1¼ lengths behind today’s favourite when the pair met at Lingfield on New Years Eve conceding 7lbs but there is a big swing in the weights today, taking Gabriele Malune’s (24% strike rate in the past 2 weeks) claim into account there is now a 14lb swing in favour of the selection. He’s been running consistently well and being drawn in stall 3 today he should put up another bold show.
