Thursday 8th March

7.15pm Newcastle – Mutarakez 2pts Win (10/3)

It’s been almost 3 years since Mutarakez’s last victory but he has been racing in very competitive contests and deserves to get his head back in front. His handicap mark has been dropping and dropping over the past year, once rated as high as 101 he will be racing off a mark of just 80 today after mainly running in class 2 events last season. He had his first run for Ruth Carr over this course and distance following a 116 day break but was given plenty to do from the rear off a slow pace, he ran on well for third and is entitled to come on for that outing. This appears a golden opportunity for him to get back in the winners enclosure off a low mark in a class 4, today’s the day!

8.15pm Newcastle – Heaven’s Guest 1pt Win (4/1)

Heaven’s Guest has been around the block a few times and took full advantage of a drop in grade to a class 4 over course and distance on his penultimate start when beating a subsequent winner. He found class 2 company a little too hot last time out and dropping back in grade again today should take the beating off just 2lb higher than when he won here last month, he’s three from four in class 4 below and he can add to that today.
